Eggs!

The first eggs were laid on the weekend of November 19th, 6 months after they arrived at Ocean Street. We are pretty sure that only two of the three hens are laying- Hops and Impatience. We believe this partially because Yeller still has a small, more pale comb on top of her head, while the other two have combs that are much bigger and redder (Hops' being the biggest by far).

Here they are eating one of their favorite treats- plain yogurt! You can see the difference in their combs quite well- In the back are Yeller (left) and Hops (right), Impatience is in the front.

Yes, we have eaten the eggs and yes, they are fantastic!!! So exciting to have fresh eggs from our backyard.

Nesting

We finally put the finishing touches on the coop in September- a nest box for the ladies. Hopefully in the next couple months they will start laying eggs! Soon after the nest box was in they made a little bowl for themselves in the wood shavings. We recently added some straw too.

Weathering the Storm

We harvested the fruits of our labor

and made a delicious sauce for pizza or pasta!

a big branch came down at our neighbors

after the worst of it we went down to the beach to see what had come ashore

sand + wind = painful

down the beach a bunch of teens braved the stormy seas...

wee birds took the wind face on on the beach
